Spell Haste Builds

This thing is a bit old news now, I apologize, but recently there has been a lot of theorycrafting about using spell haste sets in arena, and now with S4 gear, you'll be able to rock 400+ spell haste easy without PvE anything. (There are also PvP honor pieces)

You can basically rock passive heroism all the time, or 30%-ish passive reduction, always. It costs you a good chunk of your damage. As fire, this isn't too attractive. Yeah, fast scorches are kind of cool, you get the debuff up faster, but really AP-Fire is almost entirely about using AP's multiplier to take advantage of stacked +dmg; the damage sacrifice is too severe.

What about sick DB? Well, you'd need 50% haste to be able to get a guaranteed Dragon's Breath into Fireball combo. But 30% haste yields only a half second window, which might be good enough. (Remember haste reduces not only Fireball cast time but the global on DB)

Either way, DB still sucks. =p

I see haste really shining in RMP WE 3s. With stacked haste gear and IV, it's not going to be feasible to deny your poly's perfectly. Plus you're going to freecast more bolts. Shatter combos will be much weaker, but WE isn't particularly dependent on your frostbolt damage to secure kills.

I think haste is a pretty cool stat in theory -- I don't think the class is set up very well to take advantage of it necessarily, but it's going to raise the skill cap a bit as healers (priests omg) are going to have faster globals and faster heals. When cyclones, fears, polys, flashes are all on the order of 1 second instead of 1.5, it's going to become imperative players learn to CS early in casts. (Your bars will also be unreliable!) Players will have more globals to use per game and more decisions to make.

The counter to all this is that mages without high damage can't kill anything or put much pressure on healers. Turning your frostbolts into Arcane Missiles might not be ideal. But think of the Focus Meta Gem + Quag'd Eye + IV + 30% passive haste + Heroism retardedness. Or just stacked poly casts in 3s!

Dicks.

What about 40/0/21 stacked Arcane Missile spam? =p

Also...

In a world with faster globals, recognize that all crowd control is indirectly buffed. Time isn't so much what matters, but globals. Imp CS becomes 3.25 globals instead of 2.5. Poly is 10 globals, not 8. Same is true for fear, scatter, trap, stuns, everything. Could be unpredictable how this impacts things; you'd expect faster globals to help warlocks, but since rogues lock out casters most effectively, perhaps they take as great a benefit in some weird sense, which increases rogue prevalence, which counter locks, which ate the spider who swallowed the fly and so on.

FUCK YOU I'M GOING TO GO SEE IRONMAN

Calling it now, won't change a thing.

Raddy said...

Yeah, it probably won't. Blizzard makes very tangential changes sometimes and it's hard to understand where it all leads.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, and remember armor penetration and how much that didn't change anything at all?

Oh wait.

spell haste affects spell globals, that's all

Doesn't equipping weapons in combat start a 1.5 second global? Maybe if you did it mid cast it'd work, but would you still get the benefit of the new haste from the item?

SICK THEORYCRAFTIN HERE BRO

I actually tried spell haste with s3 gear, cutting my resilience to 390 and spell dmg to about 920 I was able to get 160 spell haste (lost some crit in the process but it isn't an issue). It reduced gcd do 1.36 sec afair, and... well, let's say i haven't felt any difference at all.

the movie owns! went to see it last night too radi

Has anyone tested if you are able to add a fireblast to the end of a shatter combo with enough GCD reduction?

If so how much?

Might be a reason for bringin back S(exy)2 Gloves!

still seems like something you put on the side not something you stack...

420 passive haste and still rocking a CSD in pvp gear, sounds good to me. (also note that youll have 11k hp unbuffed, 10k mp with ai up, and 448resil)

where i think this will really shine is with 4pc t6 + s4 and a wand of the demonsoul. 558 haste is so over the top its not even funny, and youll still have a respectable 9.5khp / 359resil (lolcasterzerg)

and like anon pointed out, /cast + /equip. ill definietly be using a similar macro (IV,frostbolt, staffswap) for when something absolutely has to die and i get a good opening.

Just wait till dots get tick speed increases from spell haste.

There's a storm on the horizon.

I didn't see that dot rumor over on EJ. Am I blind?

Bregor said...

People have been talking about that for ages Raddy, dunno if it has been confirmed more recently or something.

S4 looks to be even worse for locks since we basically gained no defensive stats at all and all the physical dps classes are gonna be even stronger this coming season =/

Raddy said...

I sorta think s4 won't be hot for non -gimmick lock teams too bregor. Spell haste seems great but if you're getting locked out of using any globals, it's not enough to save you from getting CLEAVED.

I fear 2xlock/druid with haste drain manas though.

ditto, its about the only downside i can see.

I don't really think the spell haste mainhand will be worth it for the huge chunk of damage you're losing. I think, if anything, spell haste should mainly be looked into as a medium to improve crowd control first and damage secondary. I put together what I think is a pretty solid damage/haste mix that I think will be viable in S4 and that I'm going to test, stats are HP: 10,473; MP: 9697; DMG: 1015; Crit: 21% w/o MA; Res: 429; Pen: 74 w/o arcane subtlety; and Haste: 179. Gems: CSD meta, 2 Forceful Seasprays, and the rest Reckless Pyrestones. Haste gear: Vindicator's Pendant of Subjugation, Cloak of Arcane Alacrity, Battlemaster's Alacrity, Wand of the Demonsoul, and Loop of Forged Power. Forgive me, it's early so I may be leaving some shit out but whatever. Polymorph stand alone will be hard enough to catch with this, and with IV popped just straight shit on somebody between fast CC and damage.

Season 4 will be a joke and the only thing to hold players on for 7 months before WLK comes out. This game is dumb and done. Season 4 is leveling gear and nothing else. 4 weeks into the season everyone will have stopped playing or will start dodging again just to sploit the new personal rating mechanics.
