If you could just log in to WoW, pick your char/class when you login and have default PvP gear and items available for all players exclusive to Arena, would you still play WoW? Take away everything MMO and just make it an arena game, would it be a game we'd want to play?
I'm not really sure. I'd like to be able to log in and play any class I want without going through the pain in the ass process of gearing up multiple characters to be arena ready. Want to try that stupid War/War/War/Dru/Dru team? No problem. But I still like the sense of having a 'main' that ties you to the community more strongly, can the two co-exist? I get that WoW is an MMO and it's not that type of game blah blah.
I know a lot of people will say WoW lacks the depth to be fun if played this way; I'm not really sure if it does or not. However the TTR experience has to at least make you think WoW could be fun, at least a little bit, if played this way. Being able to play a few games as a different character without investing hundreds of hours isn't so unreasonable, is it?
(I'm not asking for any game changes just talking GOD)

I, for one, would play it.
I only enjoy a few things in this game anymore(duels, arena, some occasional BGing NOT honor grinding), but I REALLY enjoy those things. The only bad part about them is the EXCEEDINGLY HIGH curve to even start doing them competetively. It takes days to level a toon from 1-70, and even after you're done you still have weeks, possibly months of honor grinding to do(depending on twinkage possibility(is that a thing? sounds cool, I'm goin with it)) before you can be competetive.
Oh well, it's still fun to hop on old undergeared toons and fuck around.

Your double post made me CLIMAX. But yeah I play on a private server where I have every character in full s3, its really, really fun and I don't know why Blizzard would deny me that fun. I dunno why would they want me to spend extra time on the game? It has gots me stumped.

the way i see it, i'd even much rather play a game like TTR than the game we play now.
just go on, create - equip - battle for a bit. hell, you'd even could make a lan version out of it, where you'd have your own servers and match up with some homies in 3s and 2s with different combos.

this would be the ONLY reason i'd play this game again (i quit a while ago). i don't care how much they buffed xp gain; 1-70 is a waste of time, and gearing it is even more of a waste. there are only so many talent builds and spells in the game before your class becomes disgustingly boring.
The problem is that if your class for some reason takes it from behind by the nerfbat, you still have to live with it, even though you dont really feel like it. Its a huge commitment to level & gear another class, thats the problem imo. That the rules change all the time.
I would get bored and quit within a month.

This game has nothing except arena. It's a game made by morons, for morons. The PvP has always been lacking compared to UO or AC.
TTR is totally sweet.
i would enjoy it for maybe 2 weeks max. The spells in wow are not exciting or pretty like cabal or something. The maps are limited and small. There is still a frustrating amount of RNG with any class. Losing a tie with a character removes any sense of ingame identity and community in general. Without that community a MMO is a terrible game. Your idea is basically an RTS but with no balance, less gametypes and less maps.
The only way I'd return to WoW is if this was an option. A permanent TTR if you will. In a perfect world Blizzard would take the BG's/Arena and box it up with a new title on it. Then dedicate a team to balancing that game. This way you don't have conflicts with the MMO design/balance.
I love WoW pvp, I hate the MMORPG aspect. So until this ever happens I'll stick with playing StarCraft and SF 3rdstrike (maime) with friends and keep my life on track.
Yeah that's the thing... I think a lot of us would play WoW if it was log on, pick your character, and go to battle... but I'm 99% sure you wouldn't play it for very long without getting totally bored.

i think TTR only would get pretty boring. im personally looking forward to sunwell ganking without flying mounts and i dont think you can get anything like that on TTR without some planned out skirmish going on
its a great idea for the 3v3 event. i dont think i can just only play WoW for arenas tho. When i went to a major city i saw no NPC's so that means no BGs or anything too.
Maybe if there was rated BGs I would be cool with it cause there is more options. Thats kind of the reason i find WoW fun...so many options for so many people.

Yeah its an old idea and its a great one at that. It's really fun grinding 200k honor to be able to get owned in arena for 3+ months until you have proper gear. Add level 1 to 70.
It's no picknick if you only enjoy the pvp side of this game.
You could like have an "account name" that follows you around, all your characters gets like acrynom or something that shows who you are. Would be quite nice.
Would also be very ok to make special pvp servers for just this, awesome.

Add "Paid Class Change" to the Account Management features plx. Keep reputations / professions, switch gear for equivalent, give it a huge ass cooldown like 1 year and we're good to go.
I don't think it would be a big deal, but it would piss off a lot of raiders. It would just be the last "official" proclamation that PvE progress is PvE progress for the point of PvE progress, with no further undertones are "esoteric" benefits for PvP (such as the Void Star Talisman, Lightning Capacitor, etc).
I don't mind the idea, but it is a HUGE change in design philosophy -- there's a difference between letting PvP'ers have their own gear sets in Burning Crusade and flat-out removing all elements of a PvE-esque grind system from the PvP environment. I don't think it will happen, because the cohesive nature of WoW adds a lot to its allure for the average player.
Paid class change is a bad idea.
I do a lot of arenas, and when people emo out, they always talk about rerolling. I'm pretty sure about half of these emos (who are sometimes great players) would get a character change only to regret it a few hours later.

Guild Wars- Great PvP game that gives your the ability to choose your class with the skills you want and the gear that you want.
Pretty steep learning curve though.

Honestly I think the idea of a permanent test realm, maybe renamed "practice realm" where you could play whatever class you wanted, but on live servers where the scores matter, I think there really needs to be the character building commitment.
Blizzard won't do that though obviously, if the prize purse is so large on said "do what the fuck you want, just give us money and have a free epic'd char" realm, what's the incentive to even play hardcore on the live realms?
This game died when the world pvp died imo.

Why would you have to choose between a main and TTR? Keep your main on some server, play him when you get lonely, and jump on the TTR whenever you feel like it. Everyone goes away happy. It's retarded, imo, that Bliz hasn't come up with this yet.
